Light Motorcycle Category test - A1

A light motorcycle (category A1) is defined as a solo motorcycle between 75 and 125 cc and capable of less than 62.5mph. All Dartmoor Motorcycle Training bikes are classed as A2 so this A1 option is for those students using their own bikes. A list of suitable A1 and A2 bikes can be found here. (PDF format file) This course is for riders over 17 years old who have already completed and hold a valid CBT certificate and have passed or will have passed their Motorcycle Theory Test before the date of the practical road ride test. Each training day is conducted on a 125cc motorcycle producing no more than 14.5bhp. to get you used to the handling of a your machine culminating in your road ride test on your last booked training day. Course pricing reflects the estimated finish time back at our base on each training day including the test day. If you are or will be over 21 years old when you take the practical road ride test you may opt for the Direct Access Scheme DAS. This option enables you to avoid the restriction for a period of two years to riding machines with a power output not exceeding 25 kW and a power/weight ratio not exceeding 0.16 kW/kg, after the restriction period you may ride any size of machine. Your training requirements will be monitored by your instructor who will advise you of your progress each day. You will be guided in machine control, road craft, and the skills to proceed on the road in a safe and satisfactory manner as required during the practical road ride with a DSA examiner. Each day will also include chats about topics the examiner may ask, and mock test rides to allow you to demonstrate your skills and confidence to your instructor.
